Abstract

Scheduled (hazardous) waste is extremely dangerous and critical to manage since the process for treatment will involve treatment of heavy metals and dioxin among others. The effects of such constituents are critical to the health and the environment. In Malaysia, for the last three decades, the waste management has been a main priority to the government. Policies are made to minimize and manage hazardous waste. The goal of this study is to describe the basics of Plasma Gasification Technology (PGT), review the challenges and opportunities for its implementation, and as an alternative technology, to treat and manage scheduled waste in Malaysia.
